How to Build Your Own Momentum

This module is designed for school leaders who are already part of a professional network or who intend to develop a professional network of school leader colleagues.

A principal network is founded on trust built on absolute confidentiality and is a place where school leaders discuss issues crucial to their leadership, analyze leadership dilemmas, expand their professional skills, build upon best practices, engage in action research, and provide ongoing support for one another.

We will review and reflect on studies that show the principal as major lever in raising student achievement, and we will identify skills and best practices that effective leaders utilize to initiate strategic leadership. Using a defined protocol, the module will provide participants with the information needed to create and sustain a leadership network.

Key Points

  • Collegial networks provide professional insights and reflection, when time is too constrained for more structured development opportunities.
  • When school leaders collaborate to solve problems, school culture improves.
  • Colleagues who collaborate on building leadership skills while tending to their schools can activate a successful process.
