STEM and Mindfulness/Yoga Play for Prek-Kindergarten
Yoga, mindfulness, and yoga play can be incorporated naturally during group time, nap time, and story time in your preschool-K classes. Learn about the music, stories, books, websites and resources that you can use and receive instruction in basic yoga poses that children love. Making & Tinkering in the Early Childhood Classroom
Embrace a mindset for making and tinkering through engaging, playful experiences led by Orinthia Harris, STEM trainer for the Center for Educational Improvement. Together we’ll investigate how tinkering and making experiences support fundamental STEM thinking and learning for young children. During this highly interactive workshop, you will engage in first-hand exploration of an Early Childhood Maker education. You will Learn strategies for establishing an environment that inspires children to think creatively, take risks, and solve problems Making & Tinkering is an engaging, fun, valuable means of doing what scientists and engineers do. Participants will walk away with strategies on how they can move their making and tinkering programming and thinking to the next level.
Tinkering, Making, and Engineering. CEI Trainer Orinthia Harris has designed a workshop to help you get your preschool STEM program up and running. Tinkering is so perfect for 3 and year-olds. Learn something about the steps, the role of the teacher, how to assess progress, and how to differentiate instruction even at your learning centers. Participants plan together and gain hands-on experiences that they can take to their classrooms. A session to stimulate your intellect and your curiosity. - Incorporating Play and Nature into the Preschool Curriculum. Roll up your sleeves and get prepared for some serious play! We help you consider developmental needs, safety considerations, and the fun factor. Take a walk in the woods with us. Participants learn about the why’s and how’s of structured play, improving playground experiences, stimulating curiosity, and why the “back to nature” movement has a place in preschools.
- Designing Schools for STEAM: Placing your School in a Larger Ecosystem. Our leader guides you through the process she used to create an innovative space that is designed for STEM/STEAM. Now offering this session in New England with Jillayne Flanders, award winning principal and CEI Trainer.

Meet Our STEM/STEAM Trainers
Orinthia Harris and Brandi Carrington are our primary trainers. They are dynamic educators with more than 10 years of experience both inside and outside the classroom. With a passion for making learning engaging, Orinthia, often assisted by Brandi, offers effective and rigorous STEM/STEAM workshops and technical assistance that enables teachers to “fast track” the math and science proficiency of students, and also helps to ignite the creativity and enthusiasm of young learners.
