CEI is partnering with Garfield Prep Academy in Washington, D.C., a struggling high poverty PreK-5 school that is making great gains and could use a boost. While reading and math proficiency scores are low at Garfield, Garfield was recognized last year for its improvements in academic achievement. The school is implementing mindfulness and CEI’s Heart Beaming.
Your tax-deductible donations to CEI through Dec. 30 will be matched up to $1,000 to bring iPads and other technology to this high needs school. Contributions of $10, $25, $100 or more are welcome!
Why your generous gifts will change children’s lives:
- 87% of students are at risk – students are living in poverty, foster care, or homeless shelters.
- Last year Garfield, ELA scores increased by 7.5% and Math by 8.6%
- Garfield’s proficiency rate on the PARCC Level 4 is 21.6% – however, Garfield was one of 15 schools in DC to receive a Bold Performance Award for its achievement Gains
- Garfield is implementing Mindfulness and CEI’s Heart Beaming
A message from Principal Kennard Branch: “Last year our Leadership Team (ALT) implemented an intentional data driven instructional cycle to include data analysis of student work, interim assessments and our bi-weekly formative assessments (Garfield’s PARCC Checkpoints). Our Response to Intervention (RtI) Team and Behavior Instructional Leadership Team (BILT) paid close attention to individual student data through our school’s RtI framework, providing flexible, “just in time,” high-quality, math, reading and social emotional learning interventions implemented with fidelity.
We even had our parents sign up for Great Words, a free vocabulary-boosting text message program, to get daily text messages with 3rd – 5th grade academic vocabulary words so that our students could score even higher on the PARCC.
We need and appreciate your support this year so that we can continue this important growth.”
Gifts to CEI and our partnership with Garfield are tax deductible. CEI is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit. Thank you for your support!
